Plastic surgery coming out of the closet
Plastic surgery is no longer for the women of age to rejuvenate her looks. It is now a growing trend among teenagers. Teenagers with well off parents have been undergoing a few procedures of their own. Many leading San Diego plastic surgeons are asking why. Are these young people making impulse decisions for surgery? Is the self esteem of young women in America down? Can it be that in this era we know what we want and what we’d like to fix?
Some suggest that in house holds where money comes easily more than likely parents have had multiple procedures and have been able to share this with their children. For teenagers and children alike this eliminates the fear of plastic surgery by pressing them to think there are no risks involved in plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is surgery and can be riskier to some more than others. These younger ages could possibly the right time when the health of these young people is at its prime, recovery is faster, downtime is less and all the other possible risk might just be minimized.
It is common thought among teenage girls and older women that plastic surgery isn’t only to improve their outer appearance but also to play a role in their self confidence issues. In high income and progressive cities like San Diego breast augmentation is popular with 18-20 year old females. This age group is reportedly not to think about the risk of plastic surgery and instead decide on a whim at young ages they want to fix the size or shape of their breast and the risk are over looked. Is this done to play to their insecurity? (which plastic surgery can not fix) or done simply for self improvement which most plastic surgeons say is completely normal. In most areas including San Diego, breast implants are common for the young ladies in this age group and doctors feel the need to ask whether this is to please the women themselves or society the world around them.
San Diego surgeons also agree that if noted a women or man has low self esteem prior to the surgery they should in some cases if severe not operate and suggest psychiatric help and in others suggest but proceed. Generally people who undergo plastic surgery have no real self esteem issues and those that have been noted to have a self confidence issue it is because of what ever it is that they are there to fix. Although plastic surgery is no therapy it can and usually does give new found self confidence.
Others suggest surgery is becoming more popular among young people because of the media. Our current media has no shame in pointing out who has had a procedure and who should have a procedure. Some say this indicates plastic surgery “coming out of the closet”. The media should not glorify plastic surgery but instead weigh both the risk and reward before presenting it to young people. If the media did inform about plastic surgery as a whole then it could highlight the safest and/or most common procedures such as liposuction, San Diego residents like all other residents should all be aware of less invasive procedures and invasive procedures alike.
